For 37 years, the Crushed Grape has been San Luis Obispo’s trusted source for gift baskets highlighting local wine & food from purveyors, ranches, farms and vineyards. The time has come for owner Gretchen Gonyer to explore new roads. In April 2023, The Crushed Grape announced that twins, Amber Karson & Emily Butler of Karson Butler Events will be creating custom gift baskets at their historic Ah Louis Store later this spring! Karson Butler’s Chief Creative Officer, Emily Butler, who oversees the retail & gifting operations at Ah Louis Store notes “The Crushed Grape has been a SLO gifting staple and we are honored to help carry Gretchen’s legacy on.” Karson Butler opened their entertaining general store in the historic Ah Louis Building (800 Palm Street) in 2016.
Both companies value the customer experience and supporting other small, local businesses. Butler notes “We are excited to expand our wine gift baskets later this spring. We plan to build on the Crushed Grape legacy, with a Karson Butler spin of course, and we couldn’t be more excited.” The Crushed Grape will continue operating at their current location on Madonna Road through the end of April. Gretchen will enjoy new adventures, including working on her daughter Brittany Carollo’s food truck Wandering Eats, development of a new internet souvenir and jewelry shop, a SLO Products cookbook, and volunteering.
